| GIVE GOLF A TRY PILOT SUCCESS FOR PARTNERSHIP |

The Essex Golf Partnership's strategy to introduce new people into the game of golf, took a major step forward recently. A pilot activity, where adults and children were invited to "have a go" in a relaxed, friendly environment was a resounding success at Colchester Golf Club. The afternoon received an additional boost from Beverly Lewis, former PGA Captain and BBC Commentator.
Participants were given a short lesson from Frinton Golf Club Professional, Tom Hide and then with an experienced golfer, they enjoyed 6 holes on Colchester's academy course. As everyone was a beginner, inhibitions were non-existent and smiles abound. Participants received a pack of information and promotions from 10 local golf clubs and driving ranges, allowing everyone another opportunity to pursue the game.
Partnership Chairman, Mike Hart, expressed his delight, commenting "The Colchester pilot event has been a great success and we look forward to welcoming more beginners to our event schedule in 2009".
The Partnership would like to offer a huge thank you to the volunteers and contributing golf clubs and ranges and plan to roll-out a county wide schedule of "Give Golf a Try" days from next spring. | Mike Hart, Chairman, Essex Golf Partnership receives a prestigious award for "Best Contribution to County Golf Development" at the England Golf Partnership National Conference in February 2008. Mike, over the last 7 years has been instrumental in the development of grass roots junior golf in Essex, creating links with sports development officers, shcools and professionals throughout Essex. |
