GolfMark/ClubMark is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities. Channels GC achieved its accreditation after a rigorous assessment carried out over several months. This process covers almost every aspect of the operations and management of the club with a strong emphasis on encouragement of, and facilities for, juniors and beginners.
Acknowledging the award Secretary / Manager Sara Larner said "The club is delighted and honoured by this accolade. I would like to thank club members Bill Dunbar, Terry Warmington and Junior Organiser, Ivy O'Brien who have been responsible for initiating the process and for ensuring that we met the exacting requirements of the scheme. The benefits to Channels GC and to the local community will be immediate and ongoing and as an incentive to new Junior Members the 'joining fee' will be waived".
Terry Warmington added "It was thanks to the great support and guidance of the Essex Golf Partnership, who helped steer the club through each stage of the process, that we were able to achieve the Accreditation with relative ease".
The GolfMark/ClubMark award opens the door to participation in a number of sports promotional schemes. It gives access to funding for free and subsidised coaching to local residents and schoolchildren wishing to get involved in golf. This coaching will be arranged in the coming months in conjunction with David March the PGA Professional at the Regiment Way Driving Range.
